Great place for cheap eats in Grand Haven. We had tacos and burritos and they were delicious. I've eaten in other tacquerias and it's not the best I've had by a long shot. But when you consider where you are and you're looking for cheap mexican food that's not a chain restaurant this place is a total gem. They don't stay open late so make sure you check the hours. They have six parking spaces so you'll have to park next door over by the picnic tables. The red salsa is lame. The green stuff is what you want to get. I had carne asada tacos with cilantro and onions. They'll make them 'american style' with lettuce and cheese too. I thought the meat was a little tough but it was close to closing. My family really enjoyed the burritos. The super burrito is enormous.

Can't go wrong with anything but the pork taco is amazing and make sure to try the green sauce! Came twice in one day!

Very tasty, worth stopping for if you're coming through Grand Haven! We are from CO and can find pretty authentic Mexican food whenever and wherever we want, so this was a treat.

Steak Sopes... Wow. Chille rellenos was great, too. Family said chicken tacos were the "best I've ever had". Creamy verde sauce was spicy and delicious. Service was a bit slow, and watching the Mexican version of the gong show on TV will be a lasting family memory! Highly recommend Arturo's Taco's. Make the 1+ mile drive off the beach. Well worth it!

Best burrito I have ever had by far! If you are looking for a place that serves drinks and all the frills, this is not your place. Very small inside (they do have seating outside too) but the food more than makes up for the seating. I had wet chicken B and hubbie had wet steak B, both awesome!

Sorry fellow Yelpers, I'm a bit mystified on why this place gets such rave reviews. Maybe they had an off night. I'm not local so maybe it's the best Mexican joint in town but I certainly wouldn't call it authentic. The burrito is crazy huge but it's bland-- not much chicken -mostly rice, lettuce & tortilla. Huge doesnt do me any good if there is little flavor to back it. You'll have leftovers but why would you want a 1 pound leftover of a 2 pound bland burrito.

  • Dan C.

So good! Had burrito Carne Asada and an American style taco. Both were great! Were vacationing in the area and found this a place worth visiting again. Dad had to finish our 11 year Ike's burrito but was happy to do so!

Authentic Mexican food, inexpensive and oh so tasty. Whether you get it American style or Mexican style, never disappointed. PARKING SUCKS. They are on a busy road and getting in/out is a pain in the butt. Food is good, take it and go if you can. Very friendly staff, english is a second language for some but their broken english is still better than my broken spanish so be patient, speak clearly, and you will have an excellent meal in not time. Highly recommend. Would give 5 stars if they could do something about their parking situation.

A very nice place..It's little small in size but don't worry it can fit atleast 10-15 guests at one seating. The food was great and the service was quick too. Being a vegetarian didn't had much choice, I ordered a veg. Taco along with some mexican rice and meshed beans..Delicious!!!! My friends ordered some other non veg. stuffs (pardon me for not remembering the names of the items they had) buy they were happy too!!! Glad that this place filled in both the veg. and non veg. requirements!

I was born and raised in Los Angeles and now live in Grand Haven. After leaving LA I never in a million years thought I would have authentic Mexican again unless I went back home. Well...Arturo's Taco fixes my craving for some amazing food. I was blown away by the menu and never felt so at home. Thank you Arturo for bringing TRUE MEXICAN food and culture to Grand Haven!

  • Matthew G.

I like these tacos a lot more Taco Bell tacos even though they are about the same price. Seating is limited and uncomfortable and the parking lot is tiny but the food is good enough to make any negative aspect of the establishment negotiable.

Hands down the best authentic Mexican cuisine in the Grand Haven area. Two styles of tacos, the Mexican-style comes with onions & cilantro, the American-style comes with tomato & white cheese. Both are in a pair of soft shells, and heaped so full of meat (chicken or beef), that I have found after many repeated tries that two is enough for me, take the rest home to the fridge! Tacos are 2.26 regular, but are $1/each on Mondays! I like the hot sauces they have. If you are eating in, you will get a warm basket of chips and medium-hot salsa for an appetizer. They have Mexican Coke (made with cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup) available. Tip: Pick out your table right away when you go in, before ordering if possible. Very small restaurant, has about 4 tables of 4 seats, a 2-seat table and four counter seats. That's it. Menu items are available for take-out. The owners & all the workers there are the best. Thanks for the gastric delights Arturo's :)

We always have great food at this place. We've been coming here since it opened and have watched it grow a loyal customer base. Always fresh, tasty and real Mexico food..... Veggie tacos with cilantro and onion...... horchata.....are my fav. The chips and different salsas are fantastic too.

  • Shaun R.

Love this place! The Mexican corn is amazing and something you can't get just anywhere. The food is great, but after trying a variety of items, I always come back to the plain and simple tacos. They are the best restaurant tacos in the area! Plus, the staff is always super-nice!

Arturo's is a MUST TRY Grand Haven!! Having lived for 30+ years in CA I was very happy to find this place. This is my Mexican food fix when I'm in Grand Haven for two weeks each year. Takes me right back to CA for a half hour. Like most decent South of the Boarder restaurants out west it is not fancy or complicated. No waiters or waitresses. No hostess. Just good food. Parking is easy and it's right on the main road so no excuses. Try it. I had a good laugh the first time I was there. They had a Buritto chalange: Finish a monster buritto and get a prize (t-shirt). When I asked about the t-shirt I was told they were all gone. I told him he should make the buritto bigger..

The food was really bland. Chicken was grizzly. And the building was really sketchy. I won't be returning.

  • Abbey K.

Do not order this food. I ordered from here and they failed to deliver my food. They refused to give me any money back and even admitted to having food they didn't deliver. Literally these people are pieces of shit.

Best Mexican around. Tacos are made with soft corn tortillas. The chorizo is full of flavor. El pozole es un milagro! My new favorite place to eat in Grand Haven. Heck, I ate here 3 times in the past week at least. Saw a guy order a huge "súper" burrito. Call Adam Richman... I think I see an episode of "Man vs. Food" in Arturo's future.

    (5)
  • Juliet J.

The salsa and chips were good but I didn't like the chicken on the burritos. It seemed a bit grizzly. Guacamole was ok if you like a lot of onions in your guac.

  • Sean P.

They key to a really good taco is to prepare good, fresh ingredients simply and let them speak for themselves. Arturo's has this down to an art. I stopped in during a long road trip based on their yelp reviews and I was not disappointed. I had their carne asada and al pastor tacos (both Mexican style). The tortillas they came wrapped in were a perfect complement to the tender and flavorful meat sprinkled with fresh onion and cilantro. Their hot sauces were a delight to experiment with and the salsa served with chips to start was perfect to whet my appetite. I cannot recommend them enough!

  • Erin H.

Food was excellent and very affordable. Tasted very authentic. It was really hot inside though. They took a long time to come to the register for us to order but the food came out pretty quickly. We had 5 in our group and they didn't bring out good out all together which was kind if annoying. We didn't get our nachos until about 10 minutes later and everyone was pretty much done eating at that point. But we would go back for the food.

Spent the afternoon in Grand Haven on our way to Grand Rapids and had a taste for something other than fast food. Was drawn to the great reviews on Yelp and we couldn't agree more. Wet chicken burrito, tamales, chicken enchiladas and chicken tacos were all fantastic. The tortilla chips were meh but didn't put a damper on the meal. Muy bien!!

  • Nick M.

Great tacos and authentic Mexican favorites. Super cheap and one of the best places in town to stop for lunch. Try the tacos al pastor Mexican style.

Very friendly place and delicious tacos (ordered them Mexican style). I will visit them again.

Stopped bye a little short on cash and the nice cashier helped me get a couple more tacos for a little cheaper and gave my son a free ice cream...they are very friendly and are DELICIOUS...I recommend Mexican food lovers to visit this awesome restaurant. ...

Be sure to check out the veggie tacos. Two or three will do it. Big food great price lots of fun.

The only mexican restaurant in the tri-cities. everything else is glorified taco bell

The most authentic Mexican fare that I've had since visiting San Diego! Authentic, ridiculously priced, and faster than taco bell :)

  • Noah H.

Awesome food!!! It is as simple as that the food is great! I have became a regular at Arturo's and I am never disappointed. The staff is wonderful and the food is some of the best in Grand Haven. They have been around for 4 years and definitely made their mark. I would recommend the classic Mexican style taco and sprinkling on a little of their amazing 3 hot sauces. But to be honest you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

  • Daniel D.

Small little taqueria that just flat out brings it! The tacos are excellent. I tried the steak, chorizo and beef all Mexican-style and all were great. I also tried the elote and was really impressed with how well the spice and heat combined with the mayo and cheese. I was also a big fan of the spicy guacamole sauce. About the only thing better than the food is the customer service -friendly, attentive, and eager to answer questions or offer suggestions. Just an awesome taquieria that excels at the basics. Quit reading and go!

    (5)
  • Carly H.

The guy at the register was helpful about recommendations. I had the steak taco and chorizo taco Mexican style and both breathed life into me. Also, I'm very hesitant about trying guacamole at the expense of it being out of a bag...Arturos guac is on point. All of the hot sauces are delicious. Service is great and you know you're getting a legit taco. EAT HERE.

My friend hired them to cater her sons birthday. They cancelled less than 24 hrs before her party. No real explanation. Said they were short handed. Then said they were in Indiana. Who cares! You had a contract to cater a party. Very bad business practice. They failed to follow through the on a contracted agreement. Won't ever use them or recommend them. Not cool! I hope she sues them.

Well, here we have real authentic Mexican food at its best. A very simple walk in order and either carry out or find in, this is what I did. The owners were real nice and the place is clean. I scanned the menu and chose 3 tacos. Two steak and one chicken. You have two choices, Mexican style or American with lettuce tomato and cheese. I added a Sid of beans and the bring you out chips and salsa for free. The meal was great, everything came out fast and they ask you how everything is 2,3 times. I could have gotten away with 2 tacos. I'm full, happy and it was under $10.00 Real Mexican food for real. I'll be back.

This was my first miss using yelp. Service was great, but the food was horrible. I was with a friend and we both agreed it was the worst Mexican food we have ever had.

    (1)
  • Anne O.

I love this place. The food is excellent and so is the service. I wish we had Mexican food of this quality where we live. The tacos are delicious and fresh and I like that they give you a choice between American style (with lettuce, tomato, and cheese) and Mexican style (with cilantro and onions). The super burrito is truly ginormous, as they warned us, and my 20 year old, 6 foot 4 son couldn't quite polish it off but came close.

    (5)
  • Gabbi J.

Small building & parking lot but amazingly fresh & authentic Mexican food, and they include your choice of different heat level homemade sauces for your order, one of which is a verde sauce! Nice staff as well.

  • Brent P.

Stopped by due to extreme hunger and tacos sounded delicious. My wife and I ended up ordering a super burrito with chicken instead, but added on a Mexican taco with ground beef for good measure. The super burrito is huge, but it not only boasts size, it measures up in flavor too. There's no skimping on meat and all other filings are there in perfect measure, including cilantro, which made it all perfect. The Mexican taco with beef, onion, and cilantro was really tasty and the shell was a perfect blend of crunchy and soft. Trust me, these guys are from Chicago, and Chicago guys know how to make good food. They were very friendly as well. Just a top notch place, and if we're ever back in the area, I'm taking the burrito challenge, which apparently is a burrito twice the size of what I had. Can't beat the amount of food for the price, either.

If you eat Taco Bell and like it, don't come here. This is real Mexican food, not the garbage they serve at Taco Bell. In fact, many Michigan residents might think Taco Bell is real Mexican, but rest assured Arturo's blows it away, is healthier, tastes better and won't give you the runs after you eat it. From the outside, the place might seem a little sketchy, but after the first bite you'll know this is a spot to come back to. I'm from Southern California, a place where's there's as many Mexican food joints as there are fried walleye and perch in Western Michigan and Arturo's can hang with those. Someone who designed this menu is a real Mexican and it shows in the cuisine. This place isn't a sit down and be waited on kind of a spot. You walk in, order (or call ahead), sit down and wait. And, don't expect your food in minutes, like Taco Bell. They actually cook it when you order it. Be patient. It'll be worth it. I ordered guacamole thinking I could snack on it while waiting for my meal and it took 10 minutes to make because the women in the back had to cut avocados before she made it. It wasn't store bought or packaged. Impressive, particularly in Western Michigan, or anywhere in the Midwest. The taco are wonderful, too, as is the homemade salsa, but it was the pozole that impressed me the most. Tasted like real pozole, which is a staple in New Mexico. Come in a try and bowl. It's a meal by itself. And, the burritos are sure to stuff you. Kudos for these guys, for bringing real Mexican, at a fair price to Western Michigan. You guys should be proud and everyone in the area should give this place a try, whether for a quick lunch or a easy dinner.

WOW authentic Mexican food with friendly service. I had the platter and nacho chips and the mayo corn on the cob with the rice milk and flower water. very good and you get to see a small business thrive on hard work good food and family. Beautiful.

Mexican food like I had in California. The carne Assad burrito made just right. The service is friendly came in yesterday and came back today. They even have the hot rice drink for special order. I'm happy

I am so impressed with the food here. It's not easy to find great tacos, so I am really happy we decided to eat at Arturo's. The kids really loved the tamales and enchiladas too. If you are ever in the area, do yourself a favor and eat here. The staff here are all family and offer friendly service.

I came here over the summer and was disappointed. I ordered a wet beef taco and Tasted like the meat came from a can. My family also was disappointed with the food. Good service , bad food.

We were looking for vegetarian friendly food for my wife and kids in grand haven, so I searched yelp and Arturo's popped up as the number one option, so we decided to give it a try. We had 6 in our party and were ordering tacos individually when the hostess stopped us and said we should order 12 tacos for $10....ground beef or veggie....not the "higher end" tacos but what a great deal! We ordered 5 veggie and 7 ground beef and they were fantastic (we also had the corn which was a bit hot for the kids but perfect for me). The homemade salsa verde and the hot red salsa were very good as well. Service was fast, very friendly. Fed 6 people for $25! And not a scrap was left over!

Cute little taco joint with outdoor seating. Very good tortilla chips, but if they are supposed to be attentive with refills, it didnt happen. I ordered their carne asada super burrito and it was massive - easily the size of an infant. Sloppy, covered in sauce and cheese. I tore into it eagerly, but for its impressive size and promise of bountiful goodness - the burrito was meh. The meat was not seasoned at all. Just bland, diced up carne asada. In the end, all the cheese, red sauce and various other fillings could not make up for the flavorless meat. My boyfriend gave the same verdict on his assortment of tacos - bland. Its quick food with an okay price tag, but bland Mexican food is never not disappointing when what could make it so much better is so simple even I can do it in the kitchen (and thats saying a lot).

Just a quick stop but long enough to be impressed by Arturo's warm welcome, delicious salsa and yummy chicken tostado. Will definitely come back.

For years we have talked about how GH needs a good taco place. Now they have one. We love Butch's but it's more about tradition and experience than the food. However, we will go back to Arturo's for the food. The kind of tacos we're accustomed to getting in Detroit's Mexican town. Fresh ingredients, bold flavors. Love the house salsa. The only downfall is that they don't offer carnitas - that's a big hole in their menu. Great service.

The best tasting tacos in Western Michigan. The barbacoa tacos were so delicious, served with cilantro, onion, and lime on corn tortillas. The quesadilla was excellent. Salsa was yummy. The food was hot and served quick. The place was busy and the service was great. Will be making this place a regular stop when I'm in the area.

Okay I feel like I'm starting every review mentioning that I am from California. In this case it seems like it'd give me some credibility given that we have some of the most authentic Mexican food in our back yard. When looking for a place to eat near Grand Haven while the rest of my family went to a pizza place (review to follow), I was thrilled to stumble upon this place. The tacos were fine and I'm thankful to have found the place. However, I do feel like the tortillas (Midwesterners call it, "the shells") were a bit too big for how much meat was put in each taco which wasn't enough to fill it up. Plus it was a tad bit too dry. Don't know if this is because of the yellow corn tortillas having been used. Again having had my share of fantastic Mexican food (tacos included) I feel like the taste would have been better had they used what is used more often out in Cali which are the smaller white corn tortillas. That could be a money saving thing for Arturo's as they would not have to put as much meat in these smaller tortillas. Just a suggestion. Otherwise, the taste was fine. My order was messed up as I had asked for all chicken but got red meat. Oh well. Tasted fine. Can't complain given that there is no other place in Grand Rapids that serves tacos this way.

Nice place for some quick and delicious Mexican food. Staff was nice. I had Mexican style chicken tacos, which were great!

  • Sidney A.

By far the best Mexican food in this area. The Carne Asada tacos are so delicious and the salsa verde adds just the right kick to the cilantro and onions. I have tried several other Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants in this area and always left feeling disappointed by the blandness. This place makes tacos something I crave.

Bought a restaurant.com certificate to check Arturo's Tacos out, and I was so not disappointed! My husband and I plus our two young daughters went and we got amazing service and delicious food. First of all, the prices are great. The kids had chicken taco platters (about $4) which they both loved. My husband and I had the dinner combo each (about $9). We had steak tacos, steak enchiladas (the salsa Verde is to die for) and pork tamales. I had my taco Mexican-style, with onions, lime and cilantro, it might be the best taco I've ever had. We also had elotes (corn on the cob with mayonnaise, queso fresco, and chili powder) and we all shared a steak quesadilla. It all tasted great with the Mexican Coke my older daughter and I enjoyed, and the Pineapple and Mandarin Jarritos soda my husband and younger daughter chose. We'll absolutely be back - the prices were right, the food was nothing short of amazing, and the staff (mostly family, I'm guessing) were friendly and courteous.

This place is just plain tasty. Stopped on our way from Glen Arbor to Chicago. Everything we had was good-- sopes, Mexican style tacos, tamales. Husband loved the spicy avocado sauce- it's hot and that's just how he likes his food. You won't be disappointed with this authentic and fresh food that is priced right.

Best taco place in town! Try the chicken tacos "mexican style". The cilantro, onion, and fresh lime make it a great taco. I would give Arturo's 5 stars, if only they served alcohol. ;)

Food is really good - they have very reasonable weekday specials. I get take out and they are very fast. The corn is one of my favorite sides - TRY IT!!! I have never had anything like that corn before.

This is the real deal. Hand-made tortillas, beef tongue tacos, simply topped with onion and cilantro. I'm going back and trying the tamales.

Very good, quick, affordable Mexican that is much more authentic than an Americanized fast food restaurant. I definitely recommend it.

i'm so happy to have real chicago-style mexican food close to where i'm living right now! arturo, the owner, and his family are from chicago and have been making food for people for a long time. everything i've had has been great - tacos, burritos, elotes... there is no reason whatsoever for anyone in this area to ever go to taco bell again. you have no more excuses - there is real mexican food here, and it's awesome!!

  • Vipsania A.

Authentic Mexican deliciousness! A hole-in-the-wall, but the best Mexican eateries usually are. Store is clean and the family/staff is welcoming. For those who grew up eating authentic Mexican cuisine, I recommend the lengua tacos Mexican style. I've not had a better taco ever. I could eat these all day long, but my maximum capacity is three. Also, when menudo is available (sadly during colder months only now) try it. The flavor is dead on and the tripe is chewy and tender as it should be. I love this place and wish I lived closer!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
